Class 45 Locomotive
This Class was first introduced in 1960 powered by a 2500 hp Sulzer engine with six Crompton-Parkinson 305 hp axle hung, nose suspended traction motors, giving a maximum speed of 90 mph.
Designed at Derby, they were built there or at Crewe with the body design and layout following the general pattern of the old LMS Nos. 10000 and 10001 diesel-electrics.
The Class consisted of 127 locomotives, with all but one of the 26 named.
Each Loco was named after a regiment, each plaque also carrying a military crest. These names were originally carried by Royal Scott Class steam locomotives.
